dear friends,

My work and passion have been centered around senior adults and their families since 2008. I received my Masters of Social Welfare degree with a focus in gerontology from the University of Kansas in 2008 and took my first role in a 275 apartment senior living community. As the Director of Resident Services, I supported residents to develop social circles, held their hand through deaths of family and friends, provided support groups for low vision, Parkinson’s Disease, and Alzheimer’s caregivers, and most of all learned from them. Those 6 years were some of the best of my adult working life.

I then became the Executive Director of an Alzheimer’s and dementia care community. My office was in the middle of a bustling community of 54 residents living with dementia. Here, I learned the challenges of families who were supporting their loved ones and the unique role of staff in being both a care partner and that of a genuine friend.

After that, I took the role of Divisional Dementia Care Manager for the same company and supported communities across 13 states. This role involved

  1. classroom trainings for leadership teams including executives/nurses/activity professionals.
  2. site visits and staff training on communication skills and how to engage meaningfully with the residents.
  3. coaching how to create a community culture that supports quality of life for residents, staff and families.

My goal is to bring this array of experience and training to support you in growing your communties’ awareness and knowledge in the area of quality senior and dementia care.
