The impact of attitude on environment

Environment can be assessed by what we see, hear, taste, smell and touch/feel. Those are the obvious boxes to check. But what else affects the environment? What makes you want to leave a gathering when everything appears to be just right? Humans. The power we have to affect the atmosphere is tremendous. Imagine the person that is in a rush, or is angry or impatient? What effect do they have on others in their space? What impact does body language have on interactions? Communication and tone are relayed through body language such as eye contact, facial expression, posture, or gestures. Our word choice becomes a part of the environment and can have a dramatic effect on those around us and on ourselves. (Our May topic will be all about the power of our words.) We don’t have control over others’ words, but we do control our own. Make a conscious effort to choose your tone, attitude, body language, and words to create the atmosphere that you desire.

Keep this quote from Mahatma Gandhi in mind as you make choices and decisions in the care you provide.

  • Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words.

  • Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior.

  • Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits.

  • Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values.
